Dr. Edward Izard Doucette, age 81, resident of York, Pa., passed away after a brief illness on Friday, December 31, 2010. In 2002 with his brother Forrest he acquired the "Doucette House" and donated it to the Edinboro Area Historical Society as their permanent headquarters and museum. All my life, I have been so proud of my brother Ed. I admired him for knowing what he wanted and went for it! I always looked up to him, not only because he was intelligent, but for the fact that he was also so understanding of life's problems and did all he could to make "things better." He helped me through several during my life. We shared many memories over the years. His support and kindness touched many people in his lifetime. What he did for our family, the Doucette name and our community is a testament to is all. I miss him terribly but my memories of him give me much comfort.

I am devastated to learn of the passing of my dear friend Ed. I met Ed 50 years ago when we formed E.I. Doucette Assoc. in Chatham, NJ. We worked together for several years and became very successful. My time with Ed was more educational than all of my schooling. He was a brilliant man. We kept in touch over the years and would meet for dinner several times a year. Ed would travel half way to NJ and I would travel half way to Pa. We emailed frequently and then I stopped hearing from him. Little did I know that I had lost my dear friend and mentor. I learned of his passing while reading his brother Ron's obit in NJ. I will miss him terribly and wish that I could have been with him during his illness. Ed was a most unique human being. Brilliant beyond discription and yet so down to earth and easy to be with.

My deepest condolences to his family.

Rest in peace my dear friend.

Ed encouraged and supported many people in York in their efforts to make our City a better place for all but especially children. His boundless energy and efforts in political campaigns will be missed and never replaced. My thoughts are with Phil, Carly, Dominique and Kathy (his York family) and his extended family across the country. Barbara Krier

Kathy, My families deepest sympathies go out to you and Ed's family. How fortunate York was that Ed adopted it as his home for so long. He always was concerned with the benefit of others. His support of political candidates came only when he was convinced that they would benefit the community.

My family and I will never forget his fun side. In particular, the wonderful New Years parties your family hosted in his beautiful condo. They were attended by both Democrats and Republicans.

He was a true renaissance man. Well traveled, well educated, cultured, and sophisticated. I feel fortunate to have known him. I really appreciated his willingness to have coffee with me on occassion.

He was a class act. I know his passing is a loss to you and your family. It is a loss to our community, our state and our country. Our prayers and thoughts are with you and your family. Rest in peace Ed. Your life was one well lived where you gave far more than you took. The Kennedy Family (York PA)
