Edward Sarnowski, 94, of Erie, passed away on Tuesday, January 8, 2013, at Presque Isle Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. He was born July 13, 1918 in Erie, Pa., son of the late Alexander and Helen Szerba Sarnowski. He retired from GE Company, as a truck driver. He served in the U.S. Army, in Europe, during World War II, and saw almost every country involved. He enjoyed hunting, bowling, fishing, and gardening. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his "Beloved Wife," Pearl (Szyjka) Sarnowski in 2003, a sister, Theresa Dorich, and a brother, Raymond Sarnowski, a brother-in-law, John Szyjka and a sister-in-law, Annette Smutek. Survivors include a brother, Lenny Sarnowski of Erie, two sisters-in-law, Emily Turkasz of Cheektowaga, N.Y., and Fredericka Sobieski of Elma, N.Y and caregivers, Ernie and Pauline Kisiel of Erie. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may call at the Edward J. Garr Funeral Home, Inc., 459 East 12th Street, Erie, PA 16503, on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Friday, at St. Stanislaus Church, 12th & Wallace Street, from 10 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Private entombment will be at St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Buffalo, N.Y.
