Emily Donohue, born February 24, 1915, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family November 5, 2012. She was born in Shamokin, Pa. to Francesco and Aurelia Picarella, originally from Salerno, Italy. On March 4, 1946 she married John J. (Jack) Donohue. They and their children moved to New Castle, Pa. in 1963. Jack passed away in 1994, and a year later she moved to Erie, Pa. She was also preceded in death by her son, Frank Donohue, Vietnam Conflict 1968. Emily was an encouraging matriarch to her family and provided inspiration and comfort to them as well as to her many dear friends. Her Catholic faith was constant throughout her life. She had the ability to light up any room she entered with her wit, wisdom, warmth, and charm. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed golf with her husband. Emily is survived by her sons, JJ Donohue of Napa, Calif; Brian (Debbie) Donohue of Beaver Falls, Pa.; and David (Judy) Donohue of Austin, Texas; her daughter, Kathi (Michael) George of Erie, Pa.; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Friends may call at Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 W. 38th St., Erie, Pa. 16508 on Wednesday, November 7 from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. and are invited to a funeral Mass Thursday, November 8 at 10 a.m., at St. George Roman Catholic Church at 5145 Peach St. Erie, PA 16509. Entombment at St. Mary Cemetery, in New Castle, PA will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Emmaus Ministries at 218 E. 11th St., Erie, PA 16503.
