Eugene A. "Geno" Matson Obituary
Eugene A." Geno" Matson, 87, of Raymond Ave., Corry, Pa., died on Wednesday, November 28, 2012, at Country Acres Personal Care Home, Titusville, Pa. He was born on October 2, 1925 in McClellandtown, Pa., a son of the late Lloyd and Mary Beatty Matson. Gene was raised and educated in McClellandtown, Pa., graduating from Waynesburg High School in 1944. Following school, he served with the US Army during WWII from January 24, 1944 to May 19, 1946. After his discharge, Gene came to Corry. He worked for J. R. Dall Ford Agency in Elyria, Ohio, and then at Cliff Buesink Ford in Corry before he began teaching at Corry High School in the fall of 1955. Gene taught Auto Shop for 20 years and later Industrial Arts . He worked for the Corry School District for over 32 years, retiring in 1987. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Corry. He was also a lifetime member of the Corry VFW Post #264, Iota Lambda Sigma Fraternity and the Stanford Hose Company, and a member of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees. He enjoyed working on cars. In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death on July 23, 2007 by his wife, Helen J. Bush Matson, whom he married on October 17, 1959 in Corry, Pa., and a son-in-law David Pondel. Gene is survived by a daughter Jo Ann Pondel- Fry and her husband Keith of Titusville, Pa., three grandchildren; Jennifer Pondel, David Pondel, II, and Matthew Pondel all of Titusville, Pa., a sister Hazel Loveland of Apopka, Fla., and a sister-in-law Ruth Logue of Boise, Idaho. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Family and friends may call at the Bracken Funeral Home, 315 N. Center St., Corry, Pa., on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and attend the memorial service there at 4 p.m. Rev. Larry Myers of the First Presbyterian Church will officiate. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Crawford County, 310 N. Monroe St., Titusville, PA 16354 or the First Presbyterian Church, 607 W. Smith St., Corry, PA 16407.
