Francis E. "Frank" Mehler, age 90, of Erie, died Friday, May 13, 2011, at Saint Mary's Home, East. He was born in Erie on October 10, 1920, a son of the late Francis and Mary Keough Mehler. He graduated from Sacred Heart Grade School, Cathedral Prep High School in 1938 and Gannon College. He served with the U.S. Air Corps in WWII and became the Proprietor of Mehler's Tailors on State Street from 1934 with his brother, Bob and nephew, Thomas until its closing in 2002. He was a member and past president of the Erie Maennerchor Club and also bowled duckpins. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Ushers, the Zukor, and East Erie Turners clubs. He was a member of St. George Catholic Church, where he was an usher, and was an avid golfer and gardener, enjoyed playing euchre and pinochle, loved all sports, and entertaining friends. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Rita Moore and Mary Jamison and his brother, Robert Mehler. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Rita Kuhn Mehler; four daughters, Mary Ann Hauser and her husband, David, of Erie, Christianne Bostaph and her husband, David, of Erie, Susan Bostick and her husband, Calvin, of East Stroudsburgh, Pa., and Rita Kay Bidwell and her husband, Barry, of Erie; three sons, Frank Mehler, Jr. and his wife, Kathy, of North East, William Mehler and his wife, Ann, of Erie and Richard Mehler and his wife, Moira, of Erie. 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive. Friends may call on Tuesday at the Francis V. Kloecker Funeral Home, Inc., 2502 Sassafras St., Erie, PA 16502 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and are invited to the Funeral Mass on Wednesday morning at St. George Church at 11 a.m. Send condolences to Memorials may be made to Saint Mary's Home, East, 607 East 26th St., Erie, PA 16504. Burial will be private in Calvary Cemetery.
