Gene G. Zarnick II Obituary
Gene G. Zarnick, II, age 61, of Erie, passed away on Tuesday, January 15, 2013, due to complications after heart surgery. He was born in Butler, Pennsylvania on October 18, 1951, a son of Gene G. Zarnick, I, of Butler, and the late Helen (Hrip) Zarnick. Gene received his Bachelor's degree in Russian from Clarion University and his Master's degree in Library Science from the University of Pittsburgh. He worked as the Director of the Library at SCI Albion until his retirement in 2012. He was a former member of the Erie Philharmonic Choir. Gene was a member of the Pennsylvania Library Association and Our Lady of Peace Church. He was an avid reader, and enjoyed history, trivia and watching movies. He had a wonderful sense of humor, enjoyed spending time with his family and was loved by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his mother who passed on March 4, 2012. In addition to his father, Gene is survived by his wife of 33 years, Mary Ann (Wojtkielewicz) Zarnick; a daughter Barbara Zarnick, of Erie; a son Gene G. Zarnick, III, of Windsor, Conn.; siblings, David Zarnick, wife Judy, of Butler, Lori Blank, husband Dean, of Surprise, Ariz., John Zarnick, of Butler, Kevin Zarnick of State College, Beth Zarnick-Duffy, husband Samuel, of State College and Missy Ault, husband Tim, of Mount Pleasant. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to call on Friday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 West 38th Street at Greengarden Blvd. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Church, 2401 West 38th Street. Burial will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
