Gene H. Heuvel, age 86, passed away on Sunday, October 13, 2013, at UPMC Hamot. He was born in Plum Twp., Pa. on June 18, 1927, son of the late Harry and Elizabeth Martin Van Den Heuvel.

Gene had lived in Harborcreek since 1985. He was a member of Harborcreek First Presbyterian Church. Gene served in the U.S. Navy during WWII in the Pacific Theater. He had been a member of Operating Engineers Union Local 66 for 65 years. Gene enjoyed hunting, fishing and working in the garden and vineyard.

Besides his parents, Gene was preceded in death by one sister, Marie Lantelme; and one brother, Larry Van Den Heuvel. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Margaret Knee Heuvel; two sons, Wayne Heuvel (Susan) of Harborcreek and Douglas Heuvel (Kim) of Saugerties N.Y.; one brother, Fred Van Den Heuvel (Karen) of New Kensington; five grandchildren, Jaclyn Przybylski (Jerry) Erika Youngs, Kristen Heuvel, Lindsey Michaelis (Scott), and Katrina Mullen (Andrew); four great-grandchildren, Carlie, Brooke, Jayden and Lucy; several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., East, 2607 Buffalo Road on Thursday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and are invited to attend a Funeral Service there on Friday at 10 a.m. Interment, North East Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Harborcreek First Presbyterian Church, 6724 Buffalo Rd., Erie, PA 16421.
