George A. Smith Obituary
George A. Smith, 88, of W. Frederick St., Corry, Pa., died on Tuesday, February 5, 2013, at Corry Memorial Hospital. He was born on May 3, 1924, in Jamestown, N.Y., a son of the late Edward and Blanche Bethune Smith. George was raised and educated in Corry, graduating from Corry High School in 1943. He was then drafted in the U.S. Army during WWII. He served with the 45th Division as a military police and fought at Anzio Beach in Italy. When George returned to Corry, he worked various jobs before working for Baltimore Life Insurance Company as an Insurance agent. He retired from there in 1986. He also co-owned Smith's Restaurant in Wattsburg from 1963 to 1976. George was a member of the Union City American Legion Post 237 and Moose Lodge Post 882, Shriners International, and a life member of Corry VFW Post #264. He enjoyed gardening, feeding and watching birds and in his younger years, enjoyed bowling. In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Perkins; several brothers and sisters and a grandson, Jason Smith. George is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Follett Smith, whom he married on April 22, 1946, in Panama, N.Y.; four daughters, Janet Allen and her husband Tom of Corry, Pa., Lorri Turner and her husband Ralph of Sebastian, Fla., Julie Smith and her companion Colette Satler of Monroeville, Pa., and Leslie Hulings and her husband Scott of Corry, Pa.; two sons, Dennis Smith and his wife Kim of Lebanon, Pa., and Charles Smith and his wife Darlene of Tempe, Ariz.; and a son-in-law, Emmett Perkins of Corry, Pa. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, several step-grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to call at the Bracken Funeral Home, 315 N. Center St., Corry, Pa., on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. and attend the funeral service there on Saturday at 11 a.m. Rev. Brian Eiss, of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Corry, Pa., will officiate. Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery, Columbus, Pa. Memorials may be made to Shriner's Hospital for Children, 1645 W. 8th St., Erie, PA. 16505.
