Waxhaw, NC Gerald H. Thompson, 80, of Waxhaw, N.C., passed away Thursday, January 3, 2013 at his home. Services to celebrate his life will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 6, 2013 at Weddington United Methodist Church, with Rev. Ed Briggs and Dr. Terry Moore officiating. The family will receive friends thirty minutes prior to the service, with a reception to follow. Gerald was born November 18, 1932, in Beaver Center, Pa., to Henry and Bessie Thompson. He served his country proudly in the United States Army and retired after 26 years of service to the Central Intelligence Agency. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by a brother, Lyle Thompson. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Roberta Barron Thompson of Waxhaw, N.C. , two sons, Robert John Thompson and wife Kathy of Rutherfordton, N.C., Daniel Edward Thompson and wife Larisa of Waxhaw, N.C., five grandchildren, Lacey Thompson, Brett Thompson, Andrew Thompson, Josie Thompson and Hunter Thompson, a brother, David E. Thompson and wife Berta of Tacoma, Washington and several nieces and nephews.
