1926 - 2018 Obituary Condolences
Glenn A. (June) Rugar Obituary
Glenn A. (June) Rugar, 91, of Columbus, Pa., passed away Wednesday, September 12, 2018, at the Rouse Home in Youngsville, Pa.

Glenn was born on September 13, 1926 near Spartansburg, Pa. He was the son of the late Glenn A. and Irene M. Vanderhoof Rugar Sr.

He attended school at Trimms Corners. In January 1945, he enlisted in the U. S. Army. In the service, he was a mechanic and truck driver. He served in the Philippines and was honorably discharged in July, 1946. After returning from the service, he worked on the family farm. In 1947 he moved to Erie and went to work at General Electric. On June 19, 1950, Glenn married Shirley M. Moyer in Columbus, Pa. Following his marriage, Glenn worked for several years at the Aero Supply, Corry Jamestown and the former Pennsylvania Gas Company. He then worked for many years as a laborer for the Laborers' Union Local 603 in Erie, retiring in 1988.

Glenn operated Glenn's Gun Shop at his residence in Columbus selling and repairing guns. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, which he enjoyed until his eyesight no longer permitted him to do so. He was an excellent marksman and he trained his dogs to be great hunters. Glenn's favorite pastime was taking his boat to Chautauqua Lake and Lake Wilhelm to fish. He always complained about being cold, but it was never too cold to go to the lake and sit for hours to ice fish or to blow snow with his John Deere. Glenn kept busy maintaining his lawn and gardening.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Mary Lee "Punky" Simbeck and her husband, Bill, of Columbus, and Joan K. Rugar of Corry. Also, surviving are his three grandsons, Chad (Jamey) Heacox of Louisville, Ohio, Thane (Summer Bednar) Heacox of Warren, Pa., and K. Nicholas Miller of Corry. He dearly loved his great-grandchildren, Casey, Jenna, Izabelle, & Emery Heacox. He is also survived by his brother-in-law and great friend, Bill Moyer of Columbus, along with several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Lillian Verdoni and Julia Elliott and his brother, Robert Rugar.

Family and friends are invited to call at Bracken Funeral Home, Inc., 315 N. Center St., Corry, Pa., on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until the time of the memorial service there at 12 noon. Timothy L. Olsen, CRE, Lay Pastor of the Garland Presbyterian Church and former Chaplain of Hospice of Warren County will officiate.

Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery, Columbus, Pa., at a later date.

Those wishing to send memorials may do so through Hospice of Warren Co., 1 Main Ave., Warren, PA 16365 or Friends of the Rouse, 701 Rouse Ave., Youngsville, PA 16371.
