Helen Elizabeth August Trocki, 97, of Erie, passed away on Tuesday, December 18, 2012 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in McKee's Rocks Pennsylvania on September 6, 1915, daughter of the late Michael and Frances Szymanski August. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Carl A. Trocki, son Peter, daughter Mary Ann, her brothers John, Joseph, and Gregory August; her sisters Martha Lind, Jean Soloman, and Irene Spagel; and many cherished friends. She lived most of her life in Erie. She attended East High School, and worked at Lithograph and St. Joseph's Orphanage in Erie. She and Carl were married at St. Patrick's Church on October 23, 1937. For the past 55 years she was a member of St. George Parish. Once all her children were in school, she went back to work. She worked at the St. George School cafeteria, D & R Grocery Store and Alley Aids. She retired in 1976 and enjoyed visiting her children in California, Florida, and British Columbia, Canada. She was awarded the Bishop's Commendation for Service in 2011, by Bishop Trautman, for her work making 46,586 rosaries for diocesan children. She was a member of the Saint George Rosary Society, and had previously volunteered at Gifts for Kids. She was the beloved mother of Carl Trocki (Orrawin) of Australia, David Trocki, Karen Trocki (Laurence Michalak), Stephen Trocki (Katie Lord) all of California, Deborah Trocki, of Florida, Francine Michelle Slagle (Leonard), and Mary Colette Vaughn, both of Erie. She is further survived by her twelve grandchildren Rebecca Trocki and her fiancé John Schultz, Maryland, Carl Trocki, Australia, Kathryn Slagle (Adam Wisniewski) and Jacqueline Slagle both of Erie, Nicolette Slagle of Sakon Nakon, Thailand, Amber Warren (Matt), Michael & Nadia Michalak, John & Grace Trocki all from California, Vanessa Vaughn & Stephen Trocki of Erie. She is also survived by her seven great grandchildren, Jordan & Christian Trocki of Australia, Zaria & Dax Wisniewski of Erie, Cameron & Chance Warren, California, and Violet Slagle of Erie. Further surviving is her brother-in-law Norbert Trocki, as well as many dear nieces, nephews, and friends. Friends are invited to call at Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 West 38th Street at Greengarden Boulevard, on Friday, December 21 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, December 22 from 10 until the time of a prayer service at noon, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. George Church at 1 p.m., with Monsignor Richard Mayer officiating. Interment will follow at Erie County Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made to Saint George School or the Kearsarge Volunteer Fire Department.
