Irene A. Akus Yesko, age 90, of Erie, passed away Sunday, November 18, 2012 at St. Mary's Home-East. Born July 2, 1922 in Erie, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Rozalia "Rose" Szumski Akus. Irene dedicated her life to her family, her two children, and her loving husband of 64 years. She enjoyed jigsaw and crossword puzzles as well as bowling, dancing and cooking for her family. She and her husband often traveled, especially to the oceans off Cape Cod and Florida. Irene was employed at GE prior to raising her children. She later worked in the cafeteria at Mercyhurst College and the meat department at Super Duper. Her Catholic faith was a big part of her life, and she attended Masses at Holy Trinity, Holy Rosary and St. Luke Parish. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant sister, Mary Akus, five brothers, Edward, Stanley, Walter, Anthony, Leon, and two sisters, Bernice Stuczynski and Rose M. Akus. Survivors include her devoted husband, Joseph Yesko, a son, Joseph A. Yesko, wife Jeanie, of Frederick, Md., and a daughter, Cynthia A. Yesko of South Yarmouth, Mass. Friends may call on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, Pine Avenue Branch, 845 East 38 Street. Services will be held there on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church. Interment at Calvary Cemetery.
