Irene D. Farrell Swanson, 80, a resident of St. Mary's Home Asbury Ridge, died Wednesday evening October 10, 2012 at her residence following a lengthy illness. A lifelong resident of Erie she was born July 1, 1932 a daughter of the late John and Edith Boris Farrell. Irene originally worked with the Shrine and Sportsmen Clubs as a banquet manager and most recently worked with Green Tree Press before retiring in 2004. She was a member of St. Julia Catholic Church and was very close to her family. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and animals and being a devoted wife to her husband of 58 years, Clarence Swanson. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Swanson and four brothers, Joe, Ron, Manuel, and Carl Farrell. Survivors include one son, Thomas Swanson and his dear friend Kathy Zinz of Erie; one daughter, Therese Ann Swanson of Santa Barbara, Calif.; two brothers, Edward Farrell and his wife Flo and Robert Farrell and his wife Betty, all of Erie; three sisters, Jean Santone, Agnes Helsley and her husband Ed, and Rose Mary Taylor, all of Erie; seven grandchildren, Jessica, Cassandra, Tyler, Victoria, Bryce, Allison, and Alexander; a daughter in law, Tatia Swanson of Erie; and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Road, on Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. and are invited to a prayer service there on Monday morning at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Boniface Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m..
