Irvin Ray "Sugar Man" Barnett, 73, passed away Friday, May 3, 2013 at UPMC Hamot. He was born in Laurel, Miss. on January 29, 1940, son of the late Irvin and Irene Crosby Barnett. A resident of Erie since he was two years old, he graduated from East High School. Irvin was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, where he performed around the globe for five years, as a musician, in the Navy Band. He worked at General Motors in Detroit, Mich., and Lovell Manufacturing in Erie. He was a voracious reader and loved spending time with family and friends. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert G. and Donald Joseph Barnett. He leaves to cherish his memory, beloved Mary, two brothers, David E. and Curtis R. Barnett of Erie, two sisters, Pastor Dorothy R. Ross (Random) and Carmen J. Barnett of Erie, Pa., one uncle, Minister Alvin Barnett (Hattie) of Erie, seven nephews, three nieces, several cousins, loved ones and friends. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at House of Law, 2926 Pine Ave., followed by a 1 p.m. Funeral Service conducted by Bishop Jesse N. Gavin, Pastor of Greater Calvary Full Gospel Baptist Church. Funeralization is by House of Law Inc., 2926 Pine Ave. , Erie.
