James "Jim" Earl Obituary
James "Jim" Earl, a resident of Long Beach, Calif., passed away peacefully in his sleep, on Tuesday, August 7, 2018, at age 77.

Jim was born in Erie, Pa., and was preceded in death by his parents Richard "Dick" and Shirley Earl, and stepbrother Richard "Rich" Earl.

He was a graduate of Erie Technical Memorial High, served in the U.S. Navy aboard the world's first nuclear-powered super aircraft carrier, the USS Enterprise during its maiden voyage to the Mediterranean Sea and during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

He spent 37 years working at the same airplane plant through the Douglas, McDonnell-Douglas and Boeing years. Jim was a Quality Assurance Inspector on the Flight Ramp and also part of the "special forces" teams; RAM (Recovery and Modification) team and AOG (Airplane on Ground) team for over 20 years and went to many continents and countries around the world repairing airplanes.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years Grace, his son Robert (and daughter-in-law Cari), his daughter Karen (and son-in-law Scott), grandson Jenner, step-granddaughter Devon, brother-in-law Henry Piorkowski, sisters-in-law Cathleen Hedderick and Sue Earl, and his cousins, neighbors and friends, especially Jim (wife Pat) Zeigler, his lifelong friend.

Jim's family and the many people he came into contact with during his life will fondly remember him. His family will hold a private memorial service. Internment will be at Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery in Erie, Pa. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of Jim Earl to OLR Conference – Society of St. Vincent DePaul in care of Our Lady of Refuge Church, 5195 Stearns St., Long Beach CA 90815.
