James P. Welch, Jr., age 72, of Millcreek, passed away on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at UPMC Hamot. He was born in Oil City on October 28, 1940, a son of the late James P. Welch, Sr. and the late Mildred (Blum) Welch. James served in the U.S Army and U.S. Navy Seabees, during the Vietnam War. He worked as a truck driver for Warren State Hospital. James was an avid Mercyhurst Ladies Hockey fan and hadn't missed a home game for over three years. He enjoyed reading and spending time with his family. James was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, David Welch and Carl Linblade. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Linda L. (Shreve) Welch; a daughter, Franny Welch; a son, James F. Welch and a granddaughter, Lydia Welch, all of Erie. He is also survived by his sister, Janice Thompson of Tionesta, Pa.; a sister-in-law, Sandra (Shreve) Pickens of Erie; a brother-in-law, Roger "Butch" Shreve, wife Dotty of Pleasantville, Pa. and nieces and nephews.
