James W. Manson, 88, of Erie, died Sunday November 18, 2012 at St. Mary's Home East following a brief illness. A resident of Erie most of his life he was born in Franklin, PA on December 26, 1923 a son of the late Joseph and Irene Dietzenberger Manson. James served in the United States Army during World War II and went on to graduate from Strong Vincent High School in 1947. He worked with Skinner Engine Co. for 25 years and most recently worked with Knox Air for 20 years before retiring in 1988. He was a member of Cascade United Methodist Church and enjoyed hunting and fishing. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Loretta Yusz Manson; one brother, George Manson; and a dear cousin, June Lake. Survivors include three sons, David Manson and his wife Dona, Dennis Manson and his wife Linda, and Daryl Manson and his wife Patty, all of Erie; one brother, Larry Manson and his wife Ruth of Arizona; a great aunt, Dorothy Adams and her husband Earl of Erie; three grandchildren, Stephanie Manson, Mark Manson and his wife Erin, and Michael Manson and his wife Brandy; five great grandchildren, Amber, Jordan, Markie, Hanna, and Chloe; and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Road, on Tuesday from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to services there on Wednesday morning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.
