Our loving mother Jean Ruhling Freeman, age 87, of Lawrence Park, went to be with The Lord, Monday, December 3, 2012 at the Gallagher Center of St. Mary's Home East. She was born in Erie on July 8, 1925, daughter of the late Charles, Sr. and Ruth Dunn Ruhling. Jean had worked for several years at General Electric and K-mart. She was a member of the Lawrence Park United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for 40 plus years and was also active in many church groups. She and her husband, Howard (married 64 years) built their home together 62 years ago. She enjoyed baking wedding cakes, playing the piano, and playing the violin in the Academy High School Orchestra. She is survived by her husband, Howard E. Freeman; two daughters, Carolyn Wayard (Joe) of Ashtabula, Ohio and Dianne Russ (Ron) of Harborcreek; two sons, Mark Freeman (Dianne) of Sherman, N.Y. and Brian Freeman (fiancée Nancy) of Newport, R.I.; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and the last of the two musketeers, Janet Shaffer and Florence Sowers. She was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Ruhling, Jr. The family wishes to thank all the staff at the Gallagher Center for all the loving care and support given to Jean and the family while there. Friends may call at the Lawrence Park United Methodist Church, 4015 Niagara Place, on Friday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and are invited to attend a Funeral Service there on Saturday at 11 a.m. conducted by Rev. David Turner. Interment, Valley Cemetery in McKean. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Home East, Gallagher Unit, 607 East 26th St., Erie, PA 16504 or the ANNA Shelter, 1555 East 10th St., Erie, PA 16511.
