Jerome L. Bambauer, Sr., age 95, of Millcreek Township, passed away Thursday, September 12, 2013 at Saint Mary's Home of Erie. Born August 7, 1918 in Erie, he was a son of the late August and Margaret (Sebald) Bambauer. He was raised and lived his life in Erie.
A graduate of Strong Vincent High School, he served as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II
. He was stationed in the Pacific and fought in battles in the Philippines. He received a Bronze Star
. Jim worked in Human Relations most of his career and retired from Riley Stoker. He had previously worked at Fenestra and Johnson Metal Products. He enjoyed swimming, reading, drawing, and crossword puzzles.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Florence S. Bambauer; a son, Jerome L. Bambauer, Jr.; his daughter-in-law, Luella Bambauer, wife of Jerry; and his granddaughter, Barbara. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Margaret Bambauer and brothers, Leo, Edward, Vincent, twins, Robert and Richard, and Eugene Bambauer.
Survivors include a son, Edward E. Bambauer and his significant other, Doris Whitcomb, of Shrewsbury, Mass.; a granddaughter, Constance L. Bambauer, of Erie; grandsons, Jerome L. Bambauer III, of Erie, Derek E. Bambauer, wife, Jane Y., of Tucson, Ariz., and Jeffrey R. Bambauer, wife, Melissa K., of Shrewsbury, Mass.; a great-granddaughter, Harper Rose Bambauer of Shrewsbury, Mass.; a sister-in-law, Tressa (Augustine) Bambauer of Erie and nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 West 38th Street at Greengarden Boulevard, and may attend a prayer service there Monday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Peace Church at 10 o'clock. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to West Ridge Fire Department, 3142 West Ridge Road, Erie, PA 16506.
