John A. Sam, Sr., age 90, of Erie, passed away Thursday, January 10, 2013 at St. Vincent Health Center. He was born in New Kensington, Pa. on December 18, 1922, son of the late Albert and Anna Sam. John had resided in Erie since 1948. He was employed with Bucyrus-Erie Co. for 33 years, until his retirement in 1984. He attended the Church of God on Pine Avenue. John was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in WWII. John is survived by his wife of 59 years, Joanne M. Sam; one daughter Jill Shaw (Jim) of Erie; four sons, John A. Sam, Jr. of Millcreek, Joseph E. Sam (Peggy) of Mill Village), Jeffrey A. Sam (Kathy) of Dayton, Ohio, and Jack E. Sam (Lisa) of Erie; one sister, Betty Beckadic of New Kensington, Pa. one brother-in-law, James Biancoof Indiana, Pa.; 12 grandchildren, Five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Thelma, Mary and Rose and three brothers, George, Abraham and Maxi. Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., East, 2607 Buffalo Road on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to attend a Funeral Service there on Monday at 10 a.m. conducted by his son-in-law, Jim Shaw.
