John G. Jack Sinnott Obituary
John G. "Jack" Sinnott, age 80, of Erie, passed away on Friday, June 8, 2018.

He was born in Erie on September 19, 1937 a son of the late Joseph "Dodo" and Henrietta Strohmeyer Sinnott.

Jack graduated from Cathedral Prep in 1955 and Edinboro State Teachers College in 1959. He studied at Miami of Ohio University and obtained his master's degree in counseling from Edinboro State College. He was a Teacher and Counselor at Iroquois High School where he also coached wrestling and football.

Jack was one of the northwest Pennsylvania's most accomplished wrestlers. He was a standout at both Cathedral Prep and Edinboro, where he never lost a duel meet match and was a 4-I tournament champion, which, at the time, was one of the premier amateur wrestling tournaments in the Country. He was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame, the Edinboro University Hall of Fame, the Erie Chapter of the Pennsylvania Hall of Fame and the Wesleyville/Iroquois Hall of Fame. He was an active handball player at the Downtown Erie YMCA for 50 years, where he won numerous championships.

Jack founded the wrestling program at Iroquois High School. His teams went 150-50-2 during his 13 years as head coach. In total, he coached 22 individual Section champions, 10 District champions, five Northwest Region champions and two PIAA tournament runners-up. He was Section One Coach-of-the year in 1971 and 1974.

He is preceded in death by his sister, Kathleen Weyand.

He is survived by his brother, Edward Sinnott and his wife, Gloria, of Erie; six nieces and nephews, Lisa Klevens of Pittsburgh, Mayor Joseph Sinnott, Attorney Christopher Sinnott and his wife, Kristen, Jeffrey Weyand and his wife, Janis, Patrick Weyand, and Timothy Weyand and his wife Michelle, all of Erie, and seven great-nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Tuesday at the Francis V. Kloecker Funeral Home, Inc., 2502 Sassafras St. Erie, Pa. 16502 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. and are invited to the Funeral Mass on Wednesday at St. Joseph Church/Bread of Life Community at 10 a.m. Condolences may be sent to www.kloeckerfuneralhome.com

Burial will be in Trinity Cemetery.
