John Sank Obituary

Loving Husband, Friend, Father, & Best Pa-Pa John Paul Sank, age 65, resident of North East, formerly of Harborcreek, passed away Sunday May 2, 2010 at his residence. John left us this day on the wings of an angel after a courageous battle with cancer. Although he is gone we have a lifetime of memories and our hearts are filled with his everlasting love. Death leaves a heartache no one can heal and love leaves a memory no one can steal. John was born December 31, 1944 the son of the late Joseph and Mary Matia Sank from Seward, Pa. He was also preceded in death by his brother Andrew. He was a 1962 graduate of United High School. He moved to Erie after graduation and completed a 4 year apprentice program at General Electric, retiring after 38 years of service. He loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, NASCAR Racing, playing cards, and going to the casino. John had a great love for his children and his grandchildren were the love of his life. Even on bad days they could put a smile on Papa's face. They made his life worth fighting for. He was a lifetime member of LPAC, a committee member at Grahamville Cemetery, member of the GE Quarter Century Club, active volunteer at Brevillier Village and GECAC RSVP volunteer. John is survived by his wife of 36 years Rebecca Cady Sank whom he married November 10, 1973; sons, Paul V. Sank and wife Rebecca of North East and Joseph M. Sank and wife Jessica of Erie; a daughter Christina L. of North East; the love of his life, his precious grandchildren, Julia, Joseph, Jacob, John, Alessandra, and Ayden; brothers, Joseph M. Sank and wife Magaline of Cumberland, Maryland and Michael Sank of Seward, Pa; a sister, Mary Kathleen Legaspi and husband Dr. Fred Legaspi of Clifton, Va.; many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the William D. Elkin Funeral Home 65 South Lake Street North East on Tuesday 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 and are invited to attend a prayer service on Wednesday at 9:30 am at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at St. James Catholic Church in Wesleyville. Becky, Joey, Paul and Christy, I was horribly saddened to hear the news and am very sorry for your loss. John was a wonderful man and was, along with all your entire family, very kind to my family and me during our hardest times. He always struck me as a man that was kind, patient, and selfless and through those attributes served as an example to all of us of how to be good members of our workplaces, communities, and, above all, loving members of our families. My thoughts are with you.
