John Sima, Jr., age 89, of Erie passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family on Sunday, January 20, 2013. He was born in Erie on February 27, 1923, the son of the late John Sr. and Anna Zsuravcsik Sima. John graduated Technical High School in 1942, whereupon he immediately enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II in the Pacific Theatre as a Machinist Mate First Class. Upon his return to the United States, in 1946, he began his career as a tool and die maker at Kondu Corp., retiring from there after 42 years of service. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brother Andrew (wife Anne) and sisters Mary Dolak (husband John) and Anna Lipchik (husband Mike). John is survived by his twin brothers Pete and Paul Sima; one sister, Helen Lipchik; five children, Sandra Bush (Tom) of Buffalo, N.Y., John (Mary Lou) of Erie, Michael (Melissa) of Tampa, Fla., Paul (Mary Ellen), of Buffalo, N.Y. and Mary Sue Barnett (Dan) of Pearland, Texas; 11 grandchildren, Tiffany Sima, Michael and Brett Bush, Emily and Renee Sima, Jon-Michael (Lauren) and Wesley Sima, Adam, Michael and Katherine Sima, Joshua Jewell (Dena); six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to call at the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., West, 536 West 10th St., on Tuesday, from 2 p.m to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Private services and interment, St. Nicholas Cemetery.
