Joseph C. Hoover, age 65, of Erie died of cancer at home, Saturday morning, February 9, 2013. He was born January 14, 1948 in Mahaffey, Pa. the son of the late Lloyd and Virginia (Buhite) Hoover. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Matthew Layden in 2005 Joe was a graduate of Strong Vincent High School and was an Army veteran of Vietnam. He retired from Copes Vulcan after 35 years when the plant moved to Texas. Joe loved his friends and considered them family. Club memberships included the Cascade Club, the Siebenbuerger Club, and the American Legion. He loved sports, fishing, crossword puzzles, the islands, and was a lifelong Cleveland Browns fan. He is greatly missed by his wife of 34 years, Kathleen Koch, and his dog, Duffy. He is survived by his three sisters: Mary Johnston (Bob Smid) and Kate Wilson, both of Phoenix, Ariz. and Joyce Indermill of Stuart, Fla.; his sister-in-law, Cynthia Koch (Eliot Werner) of Clinton Corners, N.Y.; an almost daughter, Erin Cauley; nieces: Machelle Griffin, Melanie Katz, Wendy Sahr, Jane DiBrito, Mary Severn, Sherry Lopez and nephew, Fred Ferketic. Kathy deeply appreciates the love and kindness shown by their friends throughout this past year. Additionally, the family would like to thank everyone at the Regional Cancer Center for their care and support. Friends are invited to call at the John J. Quinn Funeral Home, West 9th & Liberty St., Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Joseph Hoover to the ANNA Shelter, 1555 E.10th St., Erie, PA 16510 or the Regional Cancer Center, 2500 W.12th St., Erie, PA 16505.
