1926 - 2019 Obituary Condolences
Joseph R. Lewandowski, age 92, passed away on Monday, December 31, 2018, at Saint Vincent Health Center. He was born in Erie, on December 6, 1926, son of the late Thaddeus and Frances Catalinski Lewandowski.

Joseph served in the United States Navy during WWII and the Korean War. He was a police officer for 24 years with the City of Erie Police Department. During that time, he served as a K-9 Officer. He was a member of Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church. Joseph enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. He also loved spending time with his family.

Besides his parents, Joseph was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanore Szymansowki Lewandowski; a son, Thaddeus Lewandowski; a brother, Stanley Lewandowski; and two sons-in-law, Roman Bielski and John Shookster.

Joseph is survived by four daughters, Kathleen Bielski, Patricia Shookster, Helen Martin (Todd), and Joyce Godlewski (David); a sister, Sophie Tatara; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., 2607 Buffalo Rd., is in charge of the arrangements. A Memorial Mass will be held at Holy Rosary Church, 2701 East Ave., on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at noon. Inurnment will follow at Mary, Queen of Peace Cemetery, where the Erie Retired Police Officers Association will hold a brief memorial reading at 1 p.m. in the chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to S.O.N.S. of Lake Erie Fishing Club, P.O. Box 3605, Erie, PA 16508.
