Karen S. Weston, age 74, of Erie, passed away, Thursday, April 4, 2013 at St. Vincent Health Center, following a short illness. She was born in Pittsburgh, Pa. on December 13, 1938, daughter of the late George and Edna Schmidt. Karen was a graduate of Mercyhurst University and Gannon University and had earned dual Masters Degrees in Business Administration and Community Counseling. Karen was one of the first female police officers for the Erie Police Department. She received the rank of Lieutenant prior to her retirement following 21 years of service. Following that she was the Director of the Criminal Justice Department at Gannon University. Karen was a member of the American Association of University Women, N.A.A.C.P., and was very supportive of many other organizations in Erie. She had many interests including traveling, knitting and reading. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Weston, Sr. Karen is survived by three daughters, Margaret Sementilli, Nancy Berquist and Karen Hischuck (Gregory); one son, William Weston, Jr. (Anna); 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., West, 536 West 10th Street on Monday from 2 p.m. until the time of the Memorial Service there at 4 p.m. conducted by Pastor Roy Washill.
