L. Elliott Lefaiver, age 92, of Millcreek Township, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 1, 2013, at Independence Court. He was born January 8, 1921 in Erie, Pennsylvania, son of the late Elliott N. and Evelyn Kahl Lefaiver. Veteran, District Judge of Erie, and beloved father of nine, remembered as an honorable, dedicated, and principled member of the community, Elliott was an Eagle Scout and the Golden Glove Champion of 1938, in the light heavyweight division. After graduating from Academy High School in 1939, he went on to serve in the United States Army, during World War II, as a Master Sergeant. After the war, he owned and operated two businesses, prior to being elected and serving for 22 years as Erie's 5th Ward District Justice. He retired from the bench on February 28, 1985. He then presided as Senior District Justice until March of 1990. Elliott was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus, a member of the former East Erie Turners and Maennerchor Club, as well as many other fraternal organizations, but his favorite club was with his children at "The 3221 Club." Elliott was preceded in death by his first wife of 43 years, Dolores Siegel Lefaiver, his second wife Catherine Sins Lefaiver, a son, Michael Lefaiver, son-in-law, Jerome Carlin, two young grandsons, James Lefaiver and Christopher Dudzinski, his two brothers, Robert and Herbert Lefaiver, and two sisters, Dorothy Mulaney and Mary Alice Milano. Elliott is survived by his wife of 21 years, Doris Avril Marquardt Lefaiver, his children: Lawrence Lefaiver (Peggy), Chicago, Ill., Sharon Carlin, Erie, Joseph Lefaiver (Lynda), Erie, Susan Lefaiver, Erie, David Lefaiver (Marge), Erie, Peter Lefaiver (Steve), Chicago Ill., Marylisa Paprocki (Alan), Erie, Cynthia Dudzinski (Dr. John), North East, and daughter-in-law, Connie Lefaiver, Erie. He is also survived by sixteen grandchildren, Noelle Kiss (Tom), John Lefaiver (Cheryl), Candace Anthony (Leroy), Timothy Carlin (Kim), Kevin Carlin (Lori), Keith Lefaiver (Mary), Kerri L. Fabin (Michael), Matthew Lefaiver, Daniel Lefaiver, Kristie Lefaiver, Nicholas Paprocki, Nathan Paprocki, Dr. John Eric Dudzinski II, Stephanie Dudzinski, and Alexandria Dudzinski. Elliott is also survived by sixteen great-grandchildren. He is also sadly missed by his stepchildren: Linda Diehl (Dick), Erie, Dodie Beerbower, Bellevernon, Pa., four step-grandchildren, John Diehl, Betsy Masi (John), Katie Hager (Ben), Michael Beerbower (Valerie), four step-great-grandchildren, along with many other friends and loved ones. The Lefaiver family would like to thank the staff at Independence Court for their help these past few years, especially Odalis, Maria, and Jennifer. Friends may call at Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, LLP, Pine Avenue Branch, 845 East 38th Street, Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m., and may attend services Tuesday at 9:15 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at St. John the Baptist Church at 10:00 a.m. Memorial donations may be given to the John Kanzius Cancer Research Foundation, 130 West 8th Street, Suite 216, Erie, PA 16501.
