Lucy M. DeDionisio Slickanich

1941 - 2018 Obituary Condolences
Lucy M. DeDionisio Slickanich, age 77, of Harborcreek, went into Jesus' arms on the wings of an angel, on Friday, June 29, 2018, at UPMC Hamot. She was born in Harborcreek on January 7, 1941, the daughter of the late William and Erma (Zanni) DeDionisio.

Lucy was a 1959 graduate of Harbor Creek High School and had also attended the Porreco Center where she studied Early Childhood Education. She married John F. Slickanich on October 26, 1963 and had 55 wonderful years of marriage. They were married at St. James R.C. Church and remained active members. Her faith and relationship to the Church were very important to her.

Lucy had a deep love of animals, especially her own beloved dogs. She was a kind and nurturing person. She loved children and devoted a great amount of time in helping and caring for underprivileged children; having been a foster parent and provided respite foster care. She enjoyed visiting Virginia Beach and felt content being outdoors.

Lucy was primarily a loving and devoted homemaker. She was an extremely artistic woman of great humility and was a wonderfully talented Italian cook. She was previously employed by Kmart, Giant Eagle and GECAC. She had also served as a volunteer with the "Hooked-On-Books" program under the late Dr. Dolores Sarafinski.

She will be lovingly remembered for many things, however, her family will always cherish her strength, her tender heart as big as all outdoors and her role as "protector" of her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandparents: Benjamin and Marie (Ragga) DeDionisio and Costo and Jennie (Montella) Zanni (with whom she was especially close to); two uncles, Modesto Zanni and Louis DeDionisio; an aunt, Mary DeDionisio Ostrowski; one niece, Kara Lynn DeDionisio and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins.

Survivors include her beloved husband, John F. Slickanich; two brothers: William F. DeDionisio (Kathleen) of Greene Twp. and Paul A. DeDionisio (Deborah) of Harborcreek; three nieces: Julie Baganski (Frank) of Greene Twp., Lisa Beck (Terry) of Meadville and Kathryn Lucy DeDioniso of Harborcreek; seven great-nieces and nephews: Morgan, Mason, Landon, William, Gavin, Maya and Aiden and several God-children, cousins and dear friends who loved her for her kindness and faithfulness.

Lucy's family wishes to gratefully acknowledge the compassionate care extended to her by the skillful doctors, nurses and staff of the 7th Floor South of UPMC Hamot.
