Ludean Atkinson Crockett Mitchell, 86, of Erie, Pa., departed this life on Saturday, August 4, 2018. She was born in Houston, Miss., on December 25, 1931, to the late Zeke and Lula Atkinson.

She was a member of Second Baptist Church for over 60 years, where she served on the usher board. Ludean was employed at St. Mary's Home and Erie Housing Authority and most recently as a foster Grandparent with GECAC.

She was one of the first black hair stylists in the city. She enjoyed cooking and was famous for her German chocolate cake.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Reed, Isiah, Eulus, and Ned Atkinson; her sisters, IdaMae Hamilton, Ada Bean, Edith Gates, Georgia Ravnell, Lottie and Izora Atkinson; three sons, Bobby, Frank and Michael Crockett; three grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

She leaves to cherish her memory her children, James (Nona) Crockett, William (Tamara) Crockett, Maurice (Veronica) Crockett, WillieJean Esters and Michelle (Henry) Howze all of Erie; her brother, William C. Atkinson; her sister, ClidyBell Gamble, both of Erie; 59 grandchildren; 156 great-grandchildren; 56 great-great-grandchildren; a god son, Braxton Vaughn and many, many nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends are invited to visit with the family at Second Baptist Church, 757 E. 26th Street, on Friday, August 10, 2018, from 5 to 8 p.m., where a service will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at 11 a.m. with Reverend Lamont Higginbottom Sr. eulogizing and Reverend Darrold Hobson officiating. Interment will be at Erie County Memorial Gardens. Professional services are entrusted to Pitts Funeral Home, 2926 Pine Avenue, Erie, PA 16504.
