1932 - 2018 Obituary Condolences
Marie Therese Kostek O'Hern, age 85, of Harborcreek, and formerly North East, passed away peacefully, at her home, on Tuesday, September 4, 2018. She was born in Erie, on October 11, 1932, daughter of the late John and Theodora (Jaloszynski) Kostek.

Marie was a 1950 graduate of the former Academy High School. She was employed for many years by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as a secretary in the local state employment office, prior to her retirement. She was an active member of St. Gregory Thaumaturgus Church, where she faithfully served as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion and had assisted the pastor with First Friday and Saturday devotions. Marie had also served as a dedicated volunteer with the Second Harvest Food Bank for over 20 years, along with her late husband. She enjoyed tennis, skating and crafting.

In addition to her parents, Marie was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 55 years, James Jerome O'Hern; one sister, Angela Zukowski; and two brothers, Edward and Theodore Kostek.

Survivors include her three children, John M. O'Hern and his wife Beth of Lawrence Park Township, Lisa M. Priestap and her husband Chuck of Erie and the Rev. Mark A. O'Hern, Pastor of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Erie; one sister, Dolores Jagodzinski and her husband Harry of Erie; one sister-in-law, Marjorie Shearer Kostek of Erie; five grandchildren, Shawn, Kristin, Devon, Marissa and Caitlyn; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received today at St. Gregory Thaumaturgus Church, 48 S. Pearl St., North East, from 10 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. The parish rosary will be recited in the church prior to the Funeral Mass. Marie will be laid to rest at Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery beside her husband, James. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Second Harvest Foodbank of NWPA, 1507 Grimm Dr., Erie, PA 16501, , 1645 W. 8th St., Erie, PA 16505, or to LECOM Health VNA Hospice Services of Erie County, 2253 W.
