Martha G. Hixson, 85, formerly of North St., Columbus, Pa., died on Monday, November 12, 2012 at the Corry Manor where she had been a resident. She was born on February 14, 1927 in Corry, Pa., a daughter of the late Spencer "Penny" and Gertrude Winne Thompson. Martha was raised and educated in Corry, graduating from Corry High School in 1944. As a young woman, her main priority was raising and caring for her family. Later, she worked at Elgin Electronics, starting in Corry and then moved with the company to Waterford and then to Erie. She retired from there as a line supervisor in the early 1990's. Martha was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Corry. She held several office in the American Legion and VFW Post's ladies auxiliary. She enjoyed reading and going to the local casinos. In addition to her parents, Martha was preceded in death on October 30, 1998, by her husband, Smith "Smitty" Hixson whom she married November 28, 1964 in Ripley, N.Y., also by her close friend Raymond Blynt. Martha is survived by a daughter, Trudy Simmonsen of Erie, Pa.; a son, Dirk Simmonsen of Corry, Pa.; a step-son, Larry Hixson of Harpers Ferry, W.Va.; and a former daughter-in-law, Donna Simmonsen of Corry, Pa. She is also survived by a grandson, Derek Simmonsen and his wife, Rachel of Baltimore, Md., and several nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to call at the Bracken Funeral Home, 315 N. Center St., Corry, Pa., on Wednesday from 5 p.m to 8 p.m. and attend the funeral service there on Thursday at 11 a.m. Rev. Brian Eiss, St. Paul's Lutheran Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Corry, Pa. Memorials may be made to the , 300 Penn Center Blvd, Suite 602, Pittsburgh, PA 15235.
