Well my sweet baby boy,, it has been 8yrs.7 mths.15 days, Since your passing, at times it seems like yesterday. Tomorrow is thanksgiving, I'm making pies and reminiscing, about all the years you and your brother helped me dress the turkey bird. And the year the bird flew from the oven into the sink! Such wonderful memories.. I miss you so much my sweet boy. You turned into such a wonderful young man right before my eyes. I love you. I don't know why God had to take you.. But I thank god everyday for you. And the 24 short years and all the wonderful memories we made together. I know you will be here for the holidays... I only wish I could give you a big hug and feel your big bear hugs! I miss you and love you so much.

I keep waiting on that email from you that says the jokes on us all.. Mike you touched my life.. Crazy how one can sit up all night and never stop laughing at the crazy things you would do.. But through it all you were my brother and I knew that no matter what you had my back and you know what.. I think you still do... I love you and miss you more than you will ever know..

It's so hard to believe it's been a year today that we lost you. Not a day didn't go by that we didn't think of you or miss you terribly. Thank you for watching over your little buddy Meg and please continue to always have her back. She misses you so very much. Nothing will ever be the same without you Mikey. We can only be thankful for the time that we did get to have you with us in person. You'll always be a huge part of our memories. If people would try to follow the fine example of a man that you were this world would be an awesome place. We will love and miss you always, Honey

I just heard the news 4 days ago while stationed here in Balad, Iraq from a fellow servicemember still assigned to Elmendorf AFB whom recently arrived here. I can't began to express with admiration and respect the truly impressive individual "Amn Crotty" as I knew him was. I never worked hand in hand or side by side with Michael, but I grew to know him through work at Elmendorf AFB Hospital at the GI Clinic, and he was just and outstanding individual, always helpful, always upbeat and optimistic...he is truly missed and respected in memory. May you all have peace knowing the GOD chose him FIRST because he is extra special, so he is in a place no other could offer...Rejoice, he lives on in spirit with you...Always!

To the Crotty family: This is long overdue..."Crow" was one of my favorite friends and classmates. Growing up, he took me on my first fishing adventure... but I wouldn't touch the fish so he had to... We used to play red light, green light and the car game on Main Street as kids. And as silly young teens I always looked forward to trash can tackling night. Mike taught me to treasure the silly moments in life and I will never forget that. May you find peace in the joy he brought to all of us. With love.

Hi Mike,
Today I made way back to good ol LP., it definitely isn't the same without you. I would give anything to see you sitting outside the station watching traffic go by.
Thanks for the encouragement to get my EMT license and for the crash course in fire fighting. I know I had a million questions but you always answered each one of them without hesitation.
We all miss you--watch over us..
Much love.

I think of you so much. I worry about your Mom, Dad, brother and Meg. You were such a big part of their lives and it's tough on all of them. Hell, it's tough on all of us who knew and loved you. All of us miss you so very much. (we're even driven to writing in newspaper guest books, like you're going to read our entries.) If there is a Heaven, and you're there, and you're reading this, know that we LOVE and Miss you very much Honey. If you can, please just help the family cope with the tremendous loss of you.

Mike,
There is not a day or hour that goes by that I do not think about you. I really miss all the awesome times we shared. You were truly one of a kind. You knew when to be serious but have a lot of fun doing things. I know that you are overseeing us and you give us the strength to go on. We had a very unique bond that can never be replaced. When I was in Germany and in the Alps I felt you there with us, and I know that you are with all of us everyday. Love Di :)

To the Crotty Family,
I just wanted to say that Crotty was one of the people you don't hardly run into anymore. He was honest, determined, and lived life to the fullest. I served with him at Elmendorf AFB, Ak. I was his sponser for the base and showed him around Anchorage and Elmendorf when he first arrived. His dorm room was across from mine at the dorm on base. All he ever talked about was riding bikes and fighting fires back home. He was one of a kind; always willing to help you out and just a good guy. I pray I'll make it upstairs to run into him one day. I'll miss him.

I served in the USAF with SrA Michael Crotty. Since meeting him 2 years ago Michael has been a true friend to me. It was never a surprise at what he might say or do. There is no where within our work area that his memory is not felt and it is definately stained within my heart. Crotty you thought me to live life to the fullest and never take anything for granted and I thank you for that. My heart goes out to your family and friends. Losing someone so young is hard but I thank God that Crotty died doing what he loved. I pray that God builds a fence of comfort around the entire Crotty family. I salute you my brother.. You will NEVER be forgotten.

Mikey...a.k.a. Punk!
You are not only my cousin, but my best friend and hero. I can not count how many hours we spent growing up in the fire station and I thank you for all those wonderful memories! I won't even get into all the adventures we had "pumpkin farming" and fire training. We had our whole futures planned together...you were going to be my superior and I was going to be your "rookie!" You can count on me to carry out every last detail of our plans. I will also take care of the rest of the family. You were always protective of me...like a big brother...now you are protecting me from another place. You are my guardian angel Mikey! I know you will be with me every step of the way watching over me...but also in my heart. I will fight every fire for you Mike! You are a true hero! I love you punk!

TO THE CROTTY FAMILY,
MY DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO ALL WHO KNEW AND LOVED MICHAEL, I DID NOT KNOW HIM AND HAPPENED ON THIS WEBSITE BY ACCIDENT. I WAS TOUCHED BY THE KIND WORDS OF SYMPATHY, AND ALSO MOVED TO TEARS IN THE THOUGHT OF THE LOSS, AS YOU SEE I AM THE WIFE OF A FIREFIGHTER FOR 23 YEARS, AND THANKFULLY HE IS RETIRED NOW AND I NO LONGER WORRY ABOUT HIM. HOWEVER I HAVE 2 SONS WHOM HAVE CHOSEN TO FOLLOW IN THEIR FATHERS FOOT STEPS IN THIS MOST HONORABLE PROFESSION, I PRAY EVERYDAY THAT THEY COME HOME SAFELY AT THE END OF THEIR SHIFTS, AND ALSO FACE THE COLD HARD TRUTH THAT THEY MAY NOT, BUT I KNOW IN MY HEART THAT THE LOVE AND HONOR THEY HAVE FOR THEIR JOBS FAR SURPASSES ANY THAT THEY WOULD HAVE HAD IN ANY OTHER CAREER. ALWAYS REMEMBER, IT TAKES AN EXCEPTIONAL PERSON TO BECOME A FIREFIGHTER, AND BY CHOOSING IT, WAS AN EXCEPTIONAL AND BRAVE MAN.
FROM THE DEPTHS OF MY HEART ACCEPT MY THANKS FOR PRODUCING SUCH AN EXCEPTIONAL PERSON....MOTHER OF 29 YR.OLD,
A 20 YR. OLD, AND A RETIRED FIREFIGHTER, WHO KNOWS THE RISKS AND DANGERS OF THE CAREER.

To the Crotty Families - Please accept my condolences on this tragedy...To lose your Michael so early in his young life is devastating! But he accomplished quite a bit -- and you and yours did well with him and directed him and now GOD will be with Michael until you All meet again. Mikey,
You were a wonderful nephew, cousin and firefighter. We were and are so very proud of you and miss you so much. You and Megan had been planning your futures together in fire fighting for so many years. She's still going on with the plans. You were always
so proud of her and she looked up to you more like a hero brother than a cousin. I never had to worry about her when she was with you because you were so protective of her. Please watch over her and be her guardian angel now. I didn't get to see you as much as Meg but I didn't love you any less and you knew it. I miss you Honey.

Well Mike Happy Birthday. All the great people have April Birthdays! I was so happy for you that all your dreams were coming true and I was there to share them with you and benefit from all of your knowledge. You are the best teacher,firefighter/emt/paramedic and far better then any other teacher I have had. What you taught stays with me for life! Such as the famous set of irons and self mickng chain. We really got along so well on calls. And you taught me how to be so compassionate about the fire department. Even though mine was geared more to EMS, you thought it was great. You were like a 3rd son to me and we had so many great fun times and many many talks. Take care and God bless, I hope that i can live up to your standards and carry on with your dreams. My condolences go out to all of you. I didn't know Mike, but after reading all of the entries in his guestbook, I almost feel like I did. It seems he touched people where ever he went and you should all be very proud of that.
I was with Belle Valley from birth until moving away ten years ago and I know the whole fire service community of Erie County was blessed to have someone such as him coming up. I'm sure he'll be missed. Keep your heads up Brothers and Sisters, make him proud.

To the Crotty family and all who loved Michael:
We extend our deepest sympathy at the passing of your son and loved one.
Among the last seven things Jesus chose to say while on the cross, was His answer to the dying man crucified alongside Him: "This day, you will be with Me in Paradise." We firmly believe this promise of Our Lord; there is abundant Life after this life.
May Michael be welcomed by the Saints, especially by his namesake, the Great Archangel Michael.
Although, we did not know your loved one, we have family in public service: our brother, Joseph; three nephews who are Pennsylvania State Troopers; a Godson and another nephew who are City of Erie Firefighters; and a Grandson who is a Marine presently serving in Iraq.
We ask Our Lord to comfort you in your loss, and to be with all who serve our community and our country.
God bless you, Michael, please pray for all of us.

To the Family of Mike Crotty,
On behalf of the residents, families and staff of Brevillier Village Retirement Community, we want to send our deepest Condolences and prayers to your family. I know Mike had often been at Brevillier Village helping our residents when Fairfield needed a back up. His kind face was very familar to me. We have always depended so much on the volunteer fire companies to assist our residents in their times of need. They do an outstanding job! They and their families give so much of themselves to make our communities safer. Please know that Mike will always be in our thoughts and prayers.
As a way of remembering Mike we would like to place a memorial brick in his honor in our new St. Barnabas Chapel that is currently under construction and which will be done this summer. That brick will be placed among others as a rememberance to the Village of the wonderful work done by Mike and all volunteer firemen and women! This is our way of honoring a fallen hero.

It takes a special person to volunteer in the fire department and a highly dedicated person to want to have firefighting as their paid job and your free time "fun". From all that has been said about Mike he was a very special person who did alot in his few years here on earth. Please know you are in our thoughts and prayers. Thank you for sharing Mike with your entire community in a job he loved with all his heart.

Dear Crotty family,
My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Growing up on Silliman, I got to watch the volunteer firemen race down the street at the sound of the alarm. Our lives were protected by the brave few that served our community.
The Crotty family certainly contributed more than most and now a debt we can never repay. We will never forget this brave, caring young man who served his country and died doing a job he loved. Rest in peace.

My deepest sympathy to Mike's parents, family, fiance, fellow firefighters and so many dear friends. I only met Mike once just a few weeks ago at a fundraiser with fellow fire departments and was not surprised to find out he was a Crotty. He reminded me of Big Joe who had taught me essentials & other firefighting courses many years ago. Mike showed the same vigor and crazy-fun attitude. TO THE ENTIRE CROTTY FAMILY,
YOU HAVE MY DEEPEST SYMPATHY ON THE PASSING OF CROW. CROW SPENT ALOT OF TIME AT OUR HOME ON BURKHART AVE DURING HIGH SCHOOL HANGING OUT WITH MY DAUGHTER JENNIFER OSBORNE, HER SISTER JULIE AND OTHER FRIENDS. HE BECAME PART OF OUR FAMILY. HE HAD SUCH EARLY DREAMS OF BEING A PART OF THE LPFD. IT WAS ALL HE COULD TALK ABOUT EXCEPT THE KANSAS CITY CHIEFS ONCE IN AWHILE. HE WAS A BREATH OF FRESH AIR AND I WILL ALWAYS HAVE A PERMANENT PICTURE OF HIM ON THOSE WARM SUMMER NIGHTS SITTING IN FRONT OF THE FIRE HALL ON MAIN STREET. I WOULD BEEP AND WAVE AND HE WOULD ALWAYS YELL BACK " HEY MRS. O".
I AM GLAD THAT HE HAD A CHANCE TO HEAD DOWN THAT PATH OF DREAMS THAT HE HAD ALWAYS ASPIRED TO ACHIEVE. "YOU MADE IT CROW". AND YOU MADE IT A MUCH BETTER WORLD. WE WILL MISS YOU TERRIBLY AND THE SMILES YOU BROUGHT TO OUR FACES. NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE MARK YOU HAVE MADE IN THIS WORLD. UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN, JAN

To the Crotty Family:
We can not even begin to feel your grief and your pain, but we want you to know that you are all in our hearts and prayers. Knowing Joe, Tina, and Megan as well as we do, we have heard many wonderful stories about the kind of man, nephew, cousin, son, and fireman he was. Joe had one story after another about how proud he was of "Mikey". He had become the caliber of fireman that Joe had helped to teach him to beceome. I know that you will always have an empty place in hearts for Mike, but remember all of the memories that you made with him. He was a true hero, that gave selflessly of himself to his country, his community, and his family.
With much love,
Walter Wilhelm

David and Pat, how fondly I remember our days at Edison School on East Lake Road and the great time we spent growing up in that area. In the early 60's your family suffered the tragic loss of your sister, who was a wonderful young lady. Now your family is mourning again, at the loss of Mike, a son, a nephew, a young leader in the community and a friend to many. I did not know Mike , but from what I have read, he was a young man that any parent would be very proud of. Where is the justice? There is none. Our time on earth is nothing but an on going exam that we can only hope to pass to get us where we all want to go. You now have a son, a nephew, a sister and parents that have passed the exam. Be proud and may GOD bless the entire Crotty family.

Mike,
I remember the first time I met you when I applied at LP I saw your truck and thought, man this guy must be gung ho cause he parks in front of the station and boy you were so proud of that beat up truck! When I joined you told me how it was and how things were going to be and I knew you were confident in the abilities of your fellow firefighters and in me. You gave me a chance and I will promise you I will never let you down. I hope that you answer that big call in the sky and you get to the promised land you so rightly deserved. I will miss you and I am also saddened because my future child will never get to meet the man that inspired me to work harder and never stop trying. Mike you have paved your way to heaven it is now time I say my final goodbye and let you make that long walk and enjoy the fruits of your work. I will miss you everyday and make it my mission in life to make you proud.
We all love you!

To the Crotty family
Words can never express the sadness we all feel with you in losing someone who gave so much to everyone and asked little in return.
Firefighting gives us an extended family that stretches all over this big country and this week, we lost one of our brothers who will never be replaced or forgotten! Firefighters are special men and women taking time out of their lives to help others and Mikey was all of that. I am glad to know that he is on our side looking down and watching over us all and pushing us all to be our best.
May your memories of Mike always put a smile on your face and know that one day you will be together again. Rest in Peace Mikey....you will be missed.

It is always heartbreaking to hear of the loss of such a young person, and even more so when they have worked hard and achieved such highly defined goals. This area has lost two wonderful men in less than a month, men who have just finished serving our country and now were a fireman & soon to be policeman. My sympathy goes out to everyone whose life Michael touched, especially his family and fiance, friends and fellow firemen. Watching the funeral procession will be imbeded in my mind forever, it was a beautiful tribute to someone so special.

Mike was what most would say a ray of sunshine, he always had a smile when you seen him walking down the hall. I am blessed I had the opportunity to see him again when he rode out on his motorcycle with his girlfriend to visit us in Edinboro, on Saturday. He was certainly a hero, and he will be missed.

I just met Mike last Saturday, when we were picking up Engine 284, which LPFD was loaning to us. Mike was leading a group of new firefighters up the street, in full gear. I told my crew that looked just like Joe years ago. We were introduced later, and he grinned ear to ear, and said "Joe is my Uncle!"
Pat and I were both very sad to hear about the accident, Mike was a great kid.

Crotty - you always rose above the day-to-day BS, and focused on the things that really mattered! Your dedication to your dreams, your loyalty to the people you served and respected, and your ability to dissipate tension with one of your crazy stories is greatly missed.
Your dedication to your dream has become your legacy. You never stopped working towards your dreams, even when it seemed like everything conspired against you. Between your focus on achieving your dream, and your crazy stories, we all forgot about the stupid little things, and remembered what is really important in our lives! You are greatly missed, and your legacy lives on!

It was a terrible thing that happened that Tuesday. He was a true hero. Anyone who can be involved in the armed forces, and fight for our country, and also be a firefighter is a true hero. He was a close friend of the Hutchinsons. And will always will be remembered in our hearts. Out deepest sympathies are with you.

"Most merciful God,
whose wisdom is beyond our understanding,
surround the Crotty family with your love,
that they may not be overwhelmed by their loss,
but have confidence in your goodness
and strength to meet the days to come."
I went to high school with Mike. He was a funny, kind, light-hearted person. He knew wholeheartedly he wanted to be a firefighter long before most people even begin to dream of their futures. Everyone who ever knew Mike grieves with his family.
To the entire Crotty family, and all those who loved Mike like family, you are in our prayers.

To the Family of Mike Crotty,
My sympathy is with you at this most trying time. Your loss will be felt by the entire Erie community for a very long time to come.
As a member of the Erie Fire Dept, I had only gotten to know Mike for a very short time. But that short time was long enough to know that Mike would have been a great asset to our department. He will certainly be missed by all. The tremendous outpouring of support throughout all of this, should attest to that.
May God bless you and give you strength...

To The Crotty Family,
We are so deeply sorry for your loss. Our prayers and thoughts are with your family at this sorrowful time. You must be so proud of your son. He was able to accomplish much in his short life than many are able to do in a lifetime. It goes to show he had wonderful parents to set him off on the right path. He was a hero in the community, a man who was willing to put his own life in harm's way in order to help others. God Bless you all and may God's infinite love comfort you through this sorrowful time.
