Michael Whitman, age 62, of Erie, passed away Friday, April 12, 2013 at UPMC Hamot, surrounded by his family and close friends. He was born in Kittanning, Pa. on July 7, 1950, a son of the late Bill and Helyn Hoover Whitman. He graduated from California University in 1972, with a degree in Technology Education. He was employed by Iroquois School District, as a technology education teacher, and retired after 35 years. He was an active member and past president of Technology Education Association of Pa. Michael loved spending time with his family and friends, from hosting backyard pool parties to weekend drives in his corvette. His hobbies included traveling, fishing , and weekly trips to Seneca Allegheny Casino, with his wife MaryJo. He enjoyed going to the family camp in Truman, Pa., for family reunions and hunting. He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered. Michael is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, MaryJo Whitman; his loving children Katie and Justin; his little helper and grandson Ryan; a brother Stephen and his wife Connie of Downing Town, Pa.; and a sister Melinda of Swedesboro, N.J. He is also survived by two brothers-in-law, John Dailey and his wife Karen of San Antonio, Texas, and Michael Dailey and his wife Meredith of Cranberry Township, Pa.; a sister-in-law Linda Hart and her husband John of DuBois, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Road, on Monday from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., and are invited to a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, 837 Bartlett Road, on Tuesday morning at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.
