Raymond C. Lawson, 80, of Raymond Ave., Corry, Pa., died at his home on Tuesday, November 27, 2012. He was born on September 11, 1932, a son of the late Clifford A. and Esther M. Landen Lawson. Raymond was raised and educated in Corry, graduating from Corry High School in 1951. After high school, he worked a short time for the Pennsylvania Railroad. He then served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1953 to 1955. When he returned to Corry, he worked for Corry Jamestown. He worked there for over 37 years, retiring in 1993. He attended Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Corry. Raymond was a lifetime member of the Corry Central Labor Club, a present member and past treasurer of the PA State Resource Family Association, a past member and president of the Erie County Foster Parent Association, a past member and president of Lodge 1097 International Association of Machinist, Corry Jamestown, a past member and Chaplin of the American Legion Post #365 and a past member of the Corry VFW Post #264. Raymond enjoyed hunting, traveling, and camping and was an amateur radio operator. Mostly, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and family. In addition to his parents, Raymond was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred M. Hulings, five brothers; George, Frank, John, Robert and Clifford Lawson and a granddaughter, Emma Rose Kurelowech. Raymond is survived by his wife, Edith R. Lay Lawson, whom he married on April 12, 1977 in Corry, Pa., a daughter, Sherri R. Lawson Sturm of Edinboro, Pa., two sons; Paul C. Lawson and his wife, Debbie of Houston, Texas, and Roger A. Lawson and his wife, Diane of San Antonio, Texas, a step-daughter Jody Z. Mack and her husband, Jeff of Corry, Pa., four step-sons; Robin J. Kurelowech and his wife, Chrissie of Titusville, Pa., Darin G. Kurelowech and his wife, Carla of Erie, Pa., Eric F. Kurelowech and his wife, Julie of Corry, Pa., and Keith W. Kurelowech and his wife, Darcy of Spartansburg, Pa., two adopted sons; Jonathan Lawson and Thomas A. Lawson both of Erie, Pa.; two sisters; Florence Lawson Powers of Winchester, Ky., and Ruth D. Lawson Jaquith of Corry, Pa. He is also survived by two sisters-in-law; Helen and Ruth Lawson, 28 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and several local nieces and nephews. Ray had been a foster parent to over 75 children in Erie County for more than 32 years. Family and friends are invited to call at the Bracken Funeral Home, 315 N. Center St., Corry, Pa., on Friday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and attend a funeral service there on Saturday at 11 a.m. Pastor Rob Esh will officiate.
