Robert M. DeFonzo Obituary
Robert M. DeFonzo age 82 of Millcreek, passed away on Friday February 22, 2013 at Select Specialty Hospital. He was born in Erie on November 29, 1930 a son of the late Michael R. and Leona Smith DeFonzo. Robert was a graduate of Strong Vincent High School where he excelled in athletics, especially baseball. After graduation Robert was in spring training camp with the Detroit Tigers when he was called to serve his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He worked in the Shipping Department with Fenestra Steel Doors until his retirement. Robert was very passionate about his family's involvement in sports and helped coach and umpire many local softball teams and leagues. He was involved with the Erie Blades Organization and was an Ice-Guard at the JMC Ice Arena where he helped area youths keep their skates laced up. He enjoyed going on trips with his family that usually included amusement parks and riding roller coasters. He also enjoyed his daily crossword puzzles. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister Madeline Geertson. Robert was a very calm soul who always offered great advice, he will be greatly missed by his wife of 50 years Anita Evanoff DeFonzo; their two children; Sharon Wolfgang and her husband Neil of Erie and Robert M. DeFonzo Jr. of Erie; and two grandchildren; Amy Kelso of McKean and Justin DeFonzo of Erie. Robert is further survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to thank the Doctors and Staff at Select Specialty Hospital for all their care and support during this difficult time. Friends may call at the Russell C.
