Rodney Rush Rod Dale Obituary
Rodney Rush "Rod" Dale, age 80, of Girard, Pa., passed away on August 3, 2018, at his vacation home in St. Augustine, Fla.

Rodney was born in Erie, Pa., and was raised in the town of Fairview, Pa., graduating from Fairview High School with the Class of 1956. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force, during which time he met his future wife, Joyce Elaine Shepardson, of Dayton, Ohio. The two were married on December 26, 1961. After his honorable discharge from the Air Force, the couple returned to Girard, and Rod built a home for his family. Trained as an Electrical and Mechanical Engineer, Rod founded Dale Services in the early 1970s and began his career as a General Contractor. He built many commercial and residential projects and began developing his own properties (Birchdale Plaza, Birchdale Woods I and II) in the Girard area. He was also active in community affairs, having served on the Zoning Hearing Board and the Planning Commission in Girard. Rod was very successful in his work and retired in 2005 after over 30 years in business.

In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking, reading, golf, snowmobiling and camping. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of Perry-Keystone Lodge No. 392 and the Zem Zem Shrine, both of Erie, Pa. In 2005, Rod and Joyce purchased their second home in St. Augustine, Fla. More than anything, Rod was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and he will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joyce Elaine Dale; daughters, Dawn Marie Dale of McLean, Va., and Sherri Lynn Dale of Girard, Pa.; grandsons, Seth Thomas Dale Bartow and Burke Alexander Dale Bartow of McLean, Va.; a brother, David Dale and his wife Mary of Waterloo, Ill.; sister-in-law, Gaye Dale of Lake Geneva, Wis., brother, Dennis Dale (Karen) of Pittsfield, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rush and Ruth (Huber) Dale; and a brother, James Dale.

A private ceremony will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va.

St. Johns Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
