Ruby A. Phelps Thornton born November 21, 1918 to John and Marie Bailey Phelps, left this world Saturday, May 5, 2012, to join her husband, Buel J. Thornton; her sons Robert, Ronald J., and Roger; also her siblings, Ruth Vogt, Theresa, Harold, and George Phelps. She leaves behind her children, Marion Skelskie of Rochester, Mary Lou Wittman and David (Virginia) Thornton; her grandchildren, Wayne Shampoe of Texas, Wendell (Kathy) Thornton, Kathleen (Nicholas) Mobilia, Theron (Claudia) Thornton, Shawn (Mary Ann) Thornton, Barbara (Ben) Mer of Providence R.I., Judy (Frank) Deming of Fort Collins, Colo., Cindy (Joe) DeFalco of Rochester, N.Y., Arthur (Nan) Skelsie of New York City, David Lee (Jane) Thornton, Darlene Thornton, Dale (Heather) Thornton, Julie Wittman (friend, Tim Bertram), Andrew Wittman (friend, Maria Walter), Michael Wittman, Kim (Brady) Kleckner, Ronald Thornton, Jr., John (Michele) Thornton, Brent (Julie) Thornton, and Adam (Kelly) Thornton; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Ruby was known for her pie baking and Boston Brown Breads, having worked for several local restaurants. Special thanks to her friends Pat and Tom Huber that made her day with their weekly visits and Dian Bash with her custom made pillowcases each month to brighten up Ruby's world. Friends may call at the William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 South Lake St., North East on Monday from 3 p.m. till 8 p.m. and are invited to attend funeral services on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Kenneth Laber will be officiating. Interment in Wales Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Community Nursing Services of North East- Hospice, 7 Park St., North East, PA 16428.
