Sheila Lee (Langer) Spellenberg Obituary
This is the story of Sheila Lee (Langer) Spellenberg, a loving wife, daughter, sister, aunt and friend who passed away on July 9, 2018, at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, surrounded by the love of her husband and family.

Sheila's story began on February 28, 1952, when she was born in Erie, Pa. to John and Dolores Langer, now deceased.

The oldest of ten children, Sheila suffered from a rare congenital heart disease. After multiple interventions, her parents were told she would not survive past the age of 18. Fortunately, Sheila never listened to these predictions and, to our knowledge, became the oldest living survivor of this condition when she passed at age 66. She never focused on death, but lived a rich, full, courageous life. She graduated from St. Benedict's Academy and then met the love of her life, Bob Spellenberg. Married for 47 years, theirs was a true love story. Bob was by Sheila's side during every up and down and was her best friend. She was always surrounded by her family, and her siblings looked to her for not only guidance, but also a good laugh. Sheila was adored by her nieces and nephews and made them feel so special and loved. She did not go gently into that good night, but taught us all how precious and worth living life really is.

Sheila was preceded in death by parents John Martin and Dolores Ann Langer and siblings Brian and Patrick Langer.

Survivors include siblings Daniel Langer and wife Karen, Timothy Langer and wife Stacy, Susan Langer, Sherrie Boyer, Sharon Schauble, Shelley Langer Phillips and Bridget Smith and husband Michael. Sheila is also survived by 21 nieces and nephews and 18 great-nieces and great-nephews.

In accordance with Sheila's wishes, no public visitation hours will be held. Friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial at Mount Calvary Church, 2022 East Lake Road, on Thursday, July 12, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In honor of Sheila, memorials may be made to UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, Cardiac Unit. Arrangements are being handled by the Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, Pine Avenue Branch, 845 East 38th Street. Condolences may be expressed at www.bruggerfuneralhomes.com.
