Shekinah A. (Brenda Smathers) Brooks, age 57, of Erie, passed away on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at St. Vincent Health Center. She was born in Erie on July 6, 1955. Shekinah was a 1973 graduate of McDowell High School and a graduate of Briarcrest College in Canada. She first served as a missionary in Europe and then worked for defense contractors. Shekinah enjoyed music, sewing and painting and attended the New Life Nazarene Church. Shekinah is survived by her husband, Rev. G. David Brooks; her mother, Sylvia Smathers Estes; five sisters: Melissa and Bambi Smathers, Lynn Wilson (Mark), Tina DeSantis and DeLora Parker; two brothers: Terry Smathers (Peggy) and Cliff Smathers (Gracie) and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Ernest Smathers; her step-father, Harry Estes and one brother, Ernie Smathers. Friends will be received at Wrightsville Community Church on Wednesday at 10 a.m. followed by a Memorial Service at 10:30 a.m. conducted by the Rev. David Lyons. The church is located at 81 Boardman/Church St., in the village of Wrightsville, between Rt. 6 and Lottsville Rd. on Rt. 958.
