Susan E. Fisher Backstrom, age 56, of Erie, died Saturday, August 4, 2012. Born in Erie on November 27, 1955, she was the oldest daughter of Agnes Kuczaj Fisher and the late Leland Fisher. She graduated from McDowell High School in 1973. After 20 plus years as a secretary in the Saint Vincent Operating Room, she decided to pursue nursing. Susan then attended Saint Vincent School of Nursing and finished at the top of the their final graduating class. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Sarah Backstrom in 1999. She is survived by two daughters, Laurie Belczyk (Frank) and Anna Backstrom (Rick); a son, Erik Backstrom; four grandchildren, Alexis, Elliot, Arabella and Leland all of Erie; three sisters, Leslie DiRisio (Larry) of Rochester, Laurie Klein (Chuck) of Erie, Leanne Fisher Cruz of Pittsburgh; her former husband, Mark Backstrom of Erie; a niece and four nephews. Susan enjoyed reading, music, gardening, camping, and walking. However; her greatest joy in life was spending time with her grandchildren. Friends may call at the Francis V.
