Wanda Rita Swiecki, age 100, of Erie, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 18, 2013. Wanda was born in Erie on June 10, 1913, the daughter of the late Alexander and Marianna (Wlotkonska) Swiecki. A lifelong resident of Erie, Wanda in her younger days enjoyed singing in the choir and participating in gymnastics.
She was a 1936 graduate of Edinboro Normal School (Edinboro University) and was a dedicated school teacher
with the Erie School District for over forty years. She had taught first grade at Washington School and spent her summers traveling or entertaining family who visited Erie.
During WW II she had volunteered with the American Red Cross, and was a member of St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Edward Swienski; three sisters, Henrietta and Irene Swiecki, and Helen Carson; and a nephew, Russell Swienski.
Wanda is survived by two nieces, Susan Shea (Neil) of Fairview and Kay Harllee (John) of Bradenton, Fla.; and two nephews, George Carson (Linda) of Three Forks, Mont. and James Swienski (Karen) of Conneaut Lake.
There will be no visitation. Private burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the John Kanzius Cancer Research Foundation, 130 West 8th St., Erie, PA 16501. Arrangements by the John J. Quinn Funeral Home, West 9th & Liberty St.
