William L. "Bill" Borland, 83 of Girard, passed away on Wednesday November 13, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
A lifelong resident of Girard, Bill was a graduate of Rice Avenue Union High School and had served as a hospital corpsman in the U.S. Navy
, during the Korean War
He worked as a truck driver hauling steel, a mechanic at the 5 & 18 Service Center, Girard Township Supervisor, and a mechanic for Conrail from which he retired. He was a member of the Federated Church, and he enjoyed golf, bowling, softball, and racing, and always saw the humorous side of life. He was Past President of Triangle "S" Snowmobile Club and was an inductee to the Erie-Crawford Snowmobile Alliance Hall of Fame. His retirement dream was the "Lemon Shop" in which he spent numerous hours.
Bill is survived by his wife, Betty; one son, Raymond Borland; and three daughters, Karen Motter and husband Steve; Diane McCauley, all of Girard; and Debbie Oliver and husband Roy of Fort Worth, Texas; two brothers, Richard "Butch" Borland and wife Betty, Harry Borland, all of Girard, and sister Jeanette Rhodes of Memphis, Tenn.; and six grandchildren, Rachael Motter-Wright and husband Dustin, Destiny Motter, Heather Motter, Alyssa Oliver, Myia Oliver, and Cole McCauley; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at Edder Funeral Home, Inc., 309 Main St. East, Girard, PA 16417 on Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., and are invited to services there on Monday at 10 a.m. with the Reverend Dale Keefer and Pastor Howard Shouse officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in Girard Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bill Borland Memorial Fund in care of Edder Funeral Home, Inc.
