Gilbert Harold "Doc" Stiles, age 88, of Erie, died Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at the home of his son in Girard. Born December 26, 1923, in Cherry Run, he was a son of the late Gilbert and Nettie Belle Starry Stiles. Doc served in the US Army after which he was employed as a maintenance man and a mechanic. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, working on cars and spending time with his family. Doc was preceded in death by his first wife, Evelyn Stiles, a daughter-in-law, Doris Lynn Stiles, a daughter, Wanda Adams, a granddaughter, Darlene Vasalinda, a sister, Vernie McGrath, a brother, Sidney Stiles, and a half brother, Clyde Smith. He is survived by his second wife, Rose Stiles of Erie, two sons: Donald L. Stiles of Girard, and Dale H. Stiles of Apex, N.C.; four daughters: Linda Y. Stiles of Erie, Joyce Dee Nelson and her husband Jerold of Honea Path, S.C., Michelle Bainbridge and her husband Bill of Erie, Karen Bedow and her husband Doug of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; a sister, Alberta Blystone of Blacklick; as well as 20 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren, and one great great grandson. Friends are invited to call at the Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main Street East in Girard on Friday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday in Burton's All Faiths Chapel.
