 Catherine "Sally" Marcella (McGurn) Carone, age 90, passed away Friday, April 27, 2012, at Forestview Skilled Nursing Center. Born in Oil City, Pa., on October 24, 1921, she was a daughter of the late William and Rose Victoria (Simpson) McGurn. Catherine was a homemaker and a devout Catholic. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and family. She was an avid Notre Dame fan, enjoyed going for rides, and loved her cats. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John S. Carone, in 2002; two sisters, Lucy McGurn and Mary Amore; and two brothers, Edward and Thomas McGurn. Survivors include three daughters, Marcia A. Carone, of Erie, Martha M. Benoit, husband, William, of Edinboro, and Mary C. Meade, husband, James, of Erie; three sons, David W. Carone, Key West, Fla., Thomas A. Carone, wife, Margaret, of Trinidad, Colo., and John P. Carone, wife, Robin, of Erie; five grandchildren, Richard and Thomas Meade and Lyndsey, Tara and Vincent Carone; her cats, Charlie, Harry, Suzie, Katie, and Sherbet; and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 West 38th Street at Greengarden Boulevard, and may attend a prayer service there Wednesday at 12:30 p.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Saint George Church at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Oil City.
