Gordon Artlip, age 76, formerly of North East went to be with his heavenly father on Friday April 27, 2012 at Good Shepherd Hospice in Sebring, Fla. from cancer. He was born in Clifton Springs, N.Y. on December 2, 1935 to the late Abram and Julia Allen Reiman Artlip. Gordon was formerly employed at Hammermill Paper Co. until retiring in 1995. He has resided in Sebring, Fla. since 2004. Gordon was a past Master of North East Lodge No. 399 of the Free & Accepted Masons and also a past commodore of Zem Zem Zailors Club. He was married for 37 years to Margaret "Peggy" Artlip. They married in June 1957 at the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church in North East, Pa. Gordon and his wife Peggy were members of the Erie Yacht Club and boated extensively on the Great Lakes. He was a NASCAR lover, specifically Jeff Gordon and enjoyed watching NASCAR on TV and attended races at the Sebring Raceway. Gordon's interests since moving to Florida were bicycling, karaoke, attending and entering his Plymouth Prowler in cruise-ins. In 2009, he received 3rd place in the 8th Annual St. Augustine Cruisers Car Show; in 2010 he received 3rd place at the Sebring Thunder Car Show and in 2011 he proudly received 2nd place out of 600 cars at the AACA Venice Region Car Show. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife, Margaret "Peggy" Artlip in 1994; brother, Henry Artlip in 1994. He is survived by his daughters, Linda Artlip Morey and husband Steve of Greensboro, N.C., Pamela Artlip of Bradenton, Fla.; son, Glen Artlip of the D.C. area; grandchildren, Timothy Morey of Greensboro, N.C., Christopher Rupp of Greenville, N.C. and Holly Rupp of Greenville, N.C. Friends may call at the William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 South Lake Street, North East, Pa. on Friday 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. and are invited to attend funeral services on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Officiating Rev. Robert Klecan. Private interment. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The Bud and Somers Hospice House (Good Shepherd Hospice), 1110 Hammock Road, Sebring, FL 33870.
