Absent from the body, present with the Lord Douglas C. Reid, age 51, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes on Tuesday, May 15, 2012, at his home in Platea. Born March 26, 1961, in Erie, he was a son of Clifford Reid and the late Elizabeth Eddy Reid. Doug attended Girard High School and had been a union carpenter with Local 81 for over 25 years. He was a member of the NRA. Doug enjoyed hunting, fishing, archery, going to auction sales and was a huge Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. In addition to his mother, Doug was preceded in death by a sister, Marge Heath, and a brother, Fred Oravetz. He is survived by his wife, Jill B. Halm Reid; his father, Clifford Reid, of South Carolina; a daughter, Denise Reid, of Girard; two sons, Jeff A. Stevens and his wife, Stacie, Rick Reid and his wife, Lacey, all of Girard; three sisters, Bettyjean Graden and her husband, Bob, of Cranesville, Karen Bartosek of Colorado, and Debbie Stevens and her husband, Bruce, of Lake City; a brother, Dennis Reid and his wife, Kim, also of Lake City; four grandchildren, Brandy, Shelby, Brianna, Gauge; as well as several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main Street East in Girard on Friday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. in Burton's All Faiths Chapel with Rev. Mark Brumley of FlightPath Fellowship officiating. Burial will follow at Hope Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Platea Fire Company, 10012 Maple Avenue, Girard, PA 16417.
