Elsie Elizabeth (Blakeslee) Fox, 92, of Spartansburg, Pa., passed away in her home surrounded by her family on May 18, 2012. Born on March 17, 1920 in Bloomfield Twp. Pa., a daughter of the late Ernest and Eva (Potter) Blakeslee. A lifelong resident of Crawford County, Elsie graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1938. She was married to the late Charles E. Fox from 1940 until his death in 1980. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Nancy Miller; brothers, Paul Blakeslee and Lyle Blakeslee; sisters, Eleanor Geer and Lorraine Geer; and granddaughter, Louise Fox. Elsie was active in her community. A founding member of Mt. Pleasant Chapel in 1951, where she served for over 60 years as church secretary and treasurer/secretary of the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery Association. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Colonists, a very active member and area regent and vice regent of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and treasurer/secretary of the Mount Pleasant Willing Worker's Aid Society. She had also operated a dairy farm for many years. In addition to her community, she enjoyed gardening, canning, and reading. Her true passion was the research and preservation of her family's history and genealogy. Elsie is survived by a large family who will all miss the matriarch that meant so much; her sister, Elouise Penn of Spartansburg; four sons Frank Fox and wife, Patricia, of Palmetto, Fla., David Fox and wife, Donna, of Union City, Ralph Fox and wife, Althea, of Houston, Texas, and Timothy Fox and wife, Sheila, of Spartansburg. Elsie was a wonderful and loving grandmother of 19 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and three great-great- grandchildren. Friends are invited to call at the Bracken Funeral Home, 211 Mechanic St., Spartansburg, PA, on Monday from 5-8 p.m. and attend a funeral service on Tuesday at the Mt. Pleasant Chapel, Mt. Pleasant Road, Union City, Pa., at 11 a.m. Joel Alsdorf will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Bloomfield Twp., Union City, Pa. In lieu flowers, please make donations to the Mount Pleasant Willing Workers Aid Society, in care of Jill Lawrence at 36327 Dutch Hill Rd., Union City, PA 16438.
