Richard P. Karle, age 80, passed away on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at the Pennsylvania Soldiers & Sailors Home. He was born in Erie on February 14, 1932 a son of the late Joseph and Dahlila (Fleugel) Karle. Richard served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. After the war he worked as a self employed barber for many years and was also the store room manager at the PA Soldiers & Sailors Home. He was a member of the Erie Skeet Club, enjoyed bowling and motorcycle riding. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Jean Eckert. Richard is survived by his wife Hazel (Howell) Karle; a son Richard "Joe" Karle of San Francisco; a daughter Jeanette Oster, husband Bill of Ocean Springs, Mississippi; a brother William Karle, wife Rose of Erie and five grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will held at the Soldiers & Sailors Home on Thursday, May 24th at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in the Soldiers & Sailors Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made in Richard's honor to the PA Soldiers and Sailors Home Welfare Fund. All donations go towards funding activities for the residents.
