Mrs. Genevieve C. Whitney, 95, formerly of Brook St. in Titusville died at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 27, 2012, at the Wesbury United Methodist Community in Meadville. Mrs. Whitney was born on March 16, 1917, in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Clarence Marion and Laura Anna Wilcox Gordon. She married Rev. Vernon G. Whitney on August 14, 1943. He preceded her in death on December 28, 1989. She was a graduate of Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio, where she majored in English. She taught Home Economics and English at high schools in Elyria and Sulphur Springs, Ohio and Hollywood, Fla. Mrs. Whitney was a former member of the Titusville First Baptist Church. There she was also a member of the church missionary society, sang in the choir, and enjoyed teaching Sunday school class. She most recently attended and was a member of the Breedtown Baptist Church. She also attended the First Presbyterian Church afternoon Bible Study and was a member of the Titusville Women's Club. She was an avid reader and enjoyed old movies, crafting and baking. Mrs. Whitney is survived by two children, Dr. Gordon G. Whitney of Titusville and Loralyn A. Whitney of Edinboro. Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home, 303 N. Washington St., Titusville on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and attend the funeral service from the funeral home on Friday at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Gary Kinnear and interim pastor Rev. Ken Thompson of the Breedtown Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Crown Hill Cemetery, Twinsburg, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be made to the
