Joseph C. "Skip" Solazzo, age 70, passed away Sunday, May 27, 2012, at his residence in Erie. Born in Westfield, N.Y., on April 19, 1942, he was the son of the late Joseph and Anna Rose (Costanza) Solazzo. A graduate of Strong Vincent High School, where he played basketball, he received his Bachelors and Masters Degrees from Gannon College. He was a member of Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity and played on their softball team. Before retiring, he was a teacher in the Erie School District, and later worked for PennDot at the Welcome Center. Skip was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church and Siebenbuerger Club. He enjoyed his dogs, cats, playing cards and penny poker, boating, and spending time on the Peninsula. He loved sports, especially basketball and racquetball, and traveling to the U.S. Tennis Open and baseball spring training camps. He was a season ticket holder for the Erie Playhouse, Erie Sea Wolves, and Gannon University sports. He is survived by many cousins and close friends at the Curry-Schell and Salsbury Apartments. No calling hours will be observed. Friends may attend a Memorial Mass Friday at 11 o'clock at Saint Luke Church, 421 East 38th Street. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
